DONATIONSPlant Cuttings - The plant cuttings and plant support involve our long standing partnership with the Green Steps program at Summit Parkway Middle School with the intention of teaching students how to use plants to improve indoor air quality. We are working again this year with Dr. Allison Benoit and her Green Steps Team, which placed more than 50 plants in classrooms last year with our help. Old Calendars – Donated to DHEC's "Breathe Right" school program that promotes outdoor air quality. Calendars are folded into fans and given to parents waiting for their students in the carpool line. Parents are encouraged to cut off their engines and use the fans rather than idling their car engines and adding toxic fumes to the air. Toilet paper/paper towel rolls, various bottle caps - donated to Edventure Children's Museum. Tab Tops – donated to support the Ronald McDonald House Foundation. The rooms in these homes are used by parents that have children in the hospital and have come from out of town. A lot of these children are suffering with cancer. These rooms do not cost the parents anything, although, if they have the means, they can donate supplies and/or money. Toiletries and other wish list items – donated to the Women’s Shelter Boxtops for Education – are donated to several special education classes in Richland School District Two elementary schools. They are used to obtain needed classroom supplies that are not funded by the district. New Donation: Assorted Fabric Pieces – We have been working with Jane Hiller, Educational Director at Sonoco Recycling, to place assorted fabric pieces that can't use for Quilts of Valor with other groups. Mrs. Hiller has been able to use some of it for Sonoco events, and she has also been able to share fabric with the Maker Program at Edventure and with various DHEC programs. |
QUILTS OF VALORThe mission of the Quilts of Valor (QOV) Foundation is to cover Service Members and Vererans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. The North Springs Home and Garden Club presents Quilts of Valor to North Springs residents who are Service Members or Veterans. What is a Quilt of Valor? A Quilt of Valor® (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. It is awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war. The Quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” To use the term Quilt of Valor, Quilts of Valor or QOV, the quilt must be a specific size, must have a label with required information, it must be awarded (it is not a gift) and it must be recorded in the QOV database. If you would like to nominate a resident to receive a quilt, please contact Tricia Jusino at 803-419-4400. If you are interested in seeing a list of all NS recipients, please click here. |
